1) how could leonardo da vinci paint that veil thing... if it was something that "we cannot see" ?
2) if we eventually did find out that Mona Lisa was pregnant, what would that achieve?

Good points. If we can't see it it would've been a little hard for him to paint it. Although she does have a veil on her head, which is amazing for plain old paint.
Secondly, Leonardo was incredible. This guy designed flying machines, tanks, weapons, studied anatomy, the physics of light and water, and all kinds of things, centuries ahead of his time. All this freaking out over one portrait of a woman is silly, and makes it look to others as though he didn't
really accomplish much else.

Any painting or even photograph where the subject is looking directly at the artist or photographer will appear to follow you from different angles.

I think they are checking for warping or shrinkage due to the fact that it's painted on a wood panel.

i'd imagine that over time and with wear and tear, along with varnishes and other finishing agents (iirc they made reference to a "dark varnish") that the translucent veil would have been otherwise obscured, or put out of our focus

The women in the pink and green dresses were not pregnant. the dresses were very long so they were holding them up. I know for a fact that the green dressed lady is not pregnant because I learned it in school last year.
